One of the close collaborators of 'El Gusano', leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and brother of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, was arrested in the Benito Juárez borough, in Mexico City, according to Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection. This is Joel Medina Miyakazi, alias 'La Morsa', responsible for operating clandestine laboratories for the production and manufacturing of fentanyl and synthetic drugs in Elota, Sinaloa, intended for distribution in the United States, explained the secretary.
According to Harfuch, "As a result of the research work of the security cabinet institutions, the location of a man who was part of a criminal group generating violence in Sinaloa, who was hiding in Mexico City, was obtained." The arrest of Joel 'La Morsa' was the result of an operation that involved elements from different institutions, such as the Secretariat of National Defense, Secretariat of the Navy, Attorney General of the Republic, National Guard, and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection.
The deployment to capture 'La Morsa' took place in the Benito Juárez borough. "With information obtained the previous day," explained Harfuch, "we managed to arrest Joel 'N', identified as an operator of a fentanyl distribution network and linked to a leader of the criminal group Aureliano 'N'."
The arrest was made possible through the use of technology that allowed the location of 'La Morsa' moving between addresses in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and in the Narvarte Poniente neighborhood of the Benito Juárez borough. After identifying a woman who provided protection and lodging to the detained at different addresses, operations were deployed in various locations in Mexico City. During security patrols in the Narvarte neighborhood, agents identified 'La Morsa' and confiscated a firearm, cocaine, and crystalline material.
Joel 'N', 37 years old, was arrested, informed of his constitutional rights, and made available to the Public Ministry along with the seized items. The corresponding authority will determine his legal situation and initiate the investigation of the case.
